The 20th China National Model United Nations Conference Successfully Held

From October 24 to 27, the 20th China Model United Nations Conference (CNMUN) was successfully held in Changchun, Jilin Province. The CNMUN was hosted by the United Nations Association of China (UNA-China), supported by the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organized by Northeast Normal University. Vice President and Director General of UNA-China Ms. Hu Wenli, Counselor of Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Chen Kai, and President of Northeast Normal University Prof. Xu Haiyang attended and addressed the opening ceremony. The UN Secretary General Mr. António Guterres sent a congratulatory letter and video message to the event.


The CNMUN lasted for four days, with the participation of more than 300 student delegates, observers and faculty advisors from more than 70 colleges and universities nationwide. Participants simulated UN bodies and conferences, including the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the UN Economic and Social Council, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. They held general debates and consultations on draft resolutions about hotspot issues such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, sustainable development, biodiversity, human rights, aging, artificial intelligence, education, etc. More than ten experienced retired ambassadors and senior diplomats, as well as former high-ranking officials of international organizations are invited to be judges.


UNA-China first launched the CNMUN in 2004, which has become the most authoritative and professional MUN event in China. The event is aimed to raise the awareness of the concept of the UN, disseminate the knowledge of the UN among young students of colleges and universities, and train high-quality young talents with a global mindset and strengthen capacity building of engaging in global governance.
